Implementing new communication and interviewing skills through role-play is a very beneficial practice. When you are faced with the question of using peer role-play or incorporating SPs, what are the pros and cons? We know that with any simulation, there is an element of "suspending our disbelief". While it may be "easier" to role-play amongst peers or with a faculty member, it is more difficult to buy-in. Working with SPs is a more realistic experience, offering participants a natural and authentic conversation. Additionally, our SPs are thoroughly trained to debrief and provide conversational feedback after the role-play. They provide insight to nuances of the conversation that go undetected by faculty and classmates.
